Sights in Lefkada
When you arrive to Lefkada not forget to see the important Archaeological Museum, with excavations of the island, including the period from the Paleolithic era to the late Roman period. Even inlcude your visits to the Folklore Museum, presenting traditional folk Lefkaditian house, Public Library and Post-Byzantine Icons Collection housed in an impressive mansion.
Faneromeni Monastery
Outside the town of Lefkada, is the Monastery of the Virgin Faneromenis (near village Fryni), which is also the most important place of pilgrimage on the island, with great old photos and universal built in 1634.
The oldest monastery on the island of Virgin Odigitrias built around 1450 with wooden roof nave church and the church of St. John the Antzousi which according to tradition, the Apostle Paul spread Christianity, some even from the ecclesiastical monuments to visit.
Castle of Santa Maura
Just outside of town and just across from the floating bridge ( the opening is about 40m. ) Is the Venetian castle of Santa Maura. The castle is a fortification art. Marina at Lefkada, which is a much larger and from the most organized in the Mediterranean.
At the entrance of the city, next to the harbor is the famous park of poets ( The locals call it Bosketo ), which houses the busts of important personalities of the island ( Valaoritis Sikelianos, Lefkadio Hearn, Dimitrios Golemis, Kleareti Dipla – Malamou ), who made history with their artistic aura and wondrous works
Wooden bridge
It is worth that everyone can walk on the wooden bridge is built above the channel, which is located in front from the walkway to the coffee bar, next to the port city.
Residents call bridge of sighs or bridge of lovers. Built in the early nineties and the architecture gives Venetian air in the city.
Windmills
In Gyra beach, near the city, there are four windmills from twelve who were old, who until the late 20th century grind large quantities of cereals, mainly originating from Russia.
Two miles south of the city there is the area of Kalligoni, which includes the remains preserved from prehistoric city Nirikos. The area has been declared an archaeological site.
Apart from this, however, the visitor can know the beautiful landscapes featuring the island. There are also waterfalls Dimosari just outside Nidri and the Bee Canyon in Sfakiotes.
